BURL G. GRIMSLEY, SR. – Of Burton, age 83, passed away on Friday, July 14, 2023 at Ascension Genesys Hospital.
The family will receive friends from 4:00-8:00pm on Wednesday, July 19th at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Flint. Cremation will take place following the visitation.
A Graveside Service will be held the following week at 11:00am on Wednesday, July 26th at the Great Lakes National Cemetery with Pastor Gary Currell officiating. Military Honors will be performed under the auspices of the United States Navy.
Burl was born in Arbyrd, Missouri on September 7, 1939, the son of the late Orion and Josie (Ray) Grimsley. On March 23, 1974 he married Patricia Piper and she preceded him in death. Burl proudly served in the United States Navy. He retired from General Motors as a welding repairman. Burl enjoyed visiting Florida. He was an avid bowler and a sports fanatic, especially the Detroit Tigers. Burl was a family man and loved going to all of their events. He had a heart of gold and was the best father in the world.
Surviving are daughters, Myrian (Charles) Vanderhoff,
Barbara (Paul) Vliet,
and Lelia Thornton;
sons, Brian (April) Grimsley,
Walker (Gail) Thornton,
Kevin (Dana) Grimsley,
Burl Grimsley, Jr,
Jack (Connie) Thornton and William Grimsley;
33 grandchildren and 40 great-grandchildren;
brothers, Donny and Rick;
and sister, Erlene.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia Grimsley; daughters, Tina Grimsley and Rosie Thornton; brothers, Doyle, Bobby and Tommy; and sister, Joleine.
