Noreene H Young, age 92, of Burton, MI, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 17, 2021, at Fairview Adult Foster Care in Grand Ledge. Noreene was born in Flint on December 5, 1928 to Fred and Frances (Wade) Thompson. She grew up in Swartz Creek, where she went to school at Swartz Creek Mary Crapo School, where she graduated from in 1946. Noreene earned her Associate’s Degree from Baker Business College in 1948.
Noreene went to school with William Young, but never dated until after he went to school at what was then known as Michigan State College. Noreene and Bill were married in Swartz Creek in September of 1950. Noreene took great pride in the fact she was always able to find a job, whether it was as a switchboard operator at General Telephone, secretary in the Prosecutor’s office in Colorado Springs, CO, or at Chevrolet, where she worked for many years. After raising three children, Noreene began to work at Bentley Community Schools in Child Care. Noreene retired from Bentley Community Schools after working as the Accounts Payable/Bus Transportation Supervisor for 19 years. For her years of service to the school community, Noreene was named Grand Marshall of the Bentley Homecoming Parade in 2016.
For most of her adult life, Noreene dedicated her life to family, the Bentley school community and her church - Atherton Methodist Church. Whatever the event, whatever the task, Noreene would do things with grace, a warm smile and a welcoming, loving heart.
Noreene is survived by her children: Bill (Lynn) Young of Spring Lake, MI; Kim (Dr Joel Arvilla) Young of DeWitt, MI; and Beth (Ron) Kittle of Cass City, MI She leaves behind a legacy of six grandchildren: Nicole (Craig) Murphy, Michelle (Wes) Ledebuhr, Andrew (Caity) Young; Becca (Ryan) Lee, Jacob Kittle and Jordan Kittle; and three great-grandchildren, Harper Murphy, Scarlett Murphy and Shalane Ledebuhr. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband of 56 years, William H Young, in 2006. A Celebration of Noreene Young’s life will be held in the Spring. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in honor of Noreene Young to the Atherton Methodist Church or the Bentley Family Food Pantry.Please share your thoughts with the family at www.allenfuneralhomeinc.com
