SLEZAK, Marilyn Joyce (Krajewski) – of Davison, MI, passed away at home, surrounded by her loving husband Bob and family, on Sunday, March 19, 2023. Cremation has taken place. A Memorial Mass will be held 1 PM Tuesday, April 4, 2023 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 404 North Dayton Street, Davison, MI 48423; Rev. Fr. Andrew A. Czajkowski celebrant. The family will receive visitors from 11 AM until the time of the Mass on Tuesday at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made on her behalf to the memorial scholarship fund for Marilyn’s beloved grandson, Jeffrey Slezak, whom she worked with for several years, by visiting GoFundMe - Jeffrey Slezak Scholarship Fund.

Marilyn was born in Munising, Michigan on August 17, 1939, daughter of the late Edward and Lillian (Dugas) Krajewski. She married Robert Slezak on June 25, 1960 in Muskegon, MI and they have been married for 62 years. She and Bob have also been members at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Davison for 50 years.

Marilyn is survived by husband, Robert (Bob) Slezak; five children, Catherine (Bryan) Bender, David (Christine) Slezak, Patricia (Thomas) Shiflett, Kenneth (Stephanie) Slezak and James (Kathleen) Slezak.

She also took great joy in 15 grandchildren; Cameron (Jaynie) Shiflett, Brian (Meghan) Slezak, Jeffrey Slezak (deceased), Matthew (Jessica) Slezak, Ashley (Michael) Moyer, Blake (Alexandrea) Shiflett, Emily (Trevor) Mosier, Michael Bender, Jacob (Megan Stone) Slezak, Bridgette Slezak, Zachary Slezak, Christian Bender, Gabrielle Slezak, Max Slezak, and Jack Slezak. She was also blessed with seven great-grandchildren; Noah, Emma, Lily, Beckett, Miles, Luka, and Eli. She was the biggest fan at sporting events and school functions for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and would often hustle from one event to another on the same day.

Other family members include sisters, Barbara Hess (deceased) and Carol (Ross) Scovotti; brother-in-law Tom (Judy) Slezak (both deceased); special niece, Rhonda (Robert) Smith; nephews, Tom Slezak Jr., Steven (Jaime) Slezak, Greg (Tammy) Hess and John (Jackie) Hess; and several great-nephews and nieces. She also loved her lifelong friend, Dorothy Miklosovic of Brunswick, Ohio; friend/sister, Mary Jane Bender and Debbie from Leo’s Coney Island in Davison.

Marilyn was a 1957 graduate of Muskegon Catholic Central High School and then attended Muskegon Community College where she was a cheerleader. She loved dance and the arts, as she was an Arthur Murray dance instructor in Muskegon and a docent at the Grand Rapids Art Museum. Marilyn and Bob moved to Davison in 1973. Soon after, she became Little League president, which led to Davison hosting the State tournament that brought thousands of people to the area. Marilyn was also a successful entrepreneur. She started VIP Photography from her home and soon transitioned into opening the Photo Factory in 1986, where she took great pride in being able to work alongside her sons, Ken and Jim and several grandchildren, even up to her passing.

The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to Rev. Fr. Andrew A. Czajkowski, as well as everyone at Homecare Plus and the Medical Team Hospice Caregivers, who provided tremendous support in her last few weeks.
