Rev. Gary Allward, 76, of Grand Blanc MI went to his heavenly home on Friday, June 30, 2023. His death was from natural causes.Gary was born in Ypsilanti MI on June 5, 1947. the son of Dean and MaryJane Allward. He was a graduate of Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo MI; and Garrett Theological Seminary in Evanston IL. After working for the U.S. Postal Service, Gary received a calling into the ministry and became an ordained United Methodist pastor for thirty years. He served UMC churches in Hegewisch IL; and Michigan churches in: Monroe, Ironwood, Brown City, Riverview, Flint, and Pigeon. He also was a counselor at several summer church youth camps including the UMC’s Camp Michigamme. Rev. Allward loved and cared about people, believed all of the Holy Bible was God's Word, and encouraged others to have a growing friendship with Jesus Christ – making Him their Lord and Savior. Gary married Linda Smith on February 24, 1973. They later divorced. On September 1, 2001 he married Kimberly Rabidue. He was an avid reader – especially on Christian topics and history. Gary's knowledge of the U.S. Civil War was amazing! He loved sports, rooting for every team from the State of Michigan and enjoying watching any type of sport on TV or live. He loved music and incorporated the singing and playing of guitar into his ministry. Throughout his life he maintained his good sense of humor. Those left to honor Gary Allward's memory include his wife, Kimberly; his children: Andrew, David, Anne Marie, and Joy Allward Jourdan; two grandchildren: Alex and Isabelle Jourdan; his stepson, Joshua Rabidue; and his two brothers: Lance and Kirk Allward.He was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother, Dennis Allward. Brown Funeral Home in Grand Blanc is handling the funeral arrangements. Visitation will be at 1:00 PM on Sunday, July 9, at West Vienna United Methodist Church, 5485 W. Wilson Rd. Clio MI 48420. Funeral service will follow at 2:00 PM.
