Sally J. Hutchinson (McKinstry) age 82, of Davison, MI, passed away surrounded and loved by her family at Suncrest Nursing Home in Lapeer, MI. The family will receive friends at Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Flint, on Monday June 15, 2026 at 10:00 a.m., with the memorial to begin at 11:00 a.m. The service will be officiated by Pastor Dave Pompo.
Sally was born Feb. 10, 1944, in Fort Smith, Arkansas, the beloved daughter of Lloyd and Beverly McKinstry.
She graduated from Flint Southwestern High School and spent her adult life as a wonderful homemaker, hairdresser and artist, much like her father. On July 16, 1994, while on a motorcycle trip out West, Sally married the love of her life, Charles “Chuck” Hutchinson. Having shared a special connection from their childhood, Chuck had also been her first kiss when she was three years old. Together, they spent their retirement years enjoying travel, wildlife, and their large family until Chuck’s passing.
Sally had a deep appreciation for nature, wildlife and crafting. Her artwork captured nature perfectly, especially her love for birds, small animals, and lighthouses. She treasured time spent with family and friends and learning more about our Lord and Savior. Her grandchildren brought so much joy and pride to her. She also adored her furry friends Cassie and Lizzy Buttons.
Sally will be remembered for her kind heart, beautiful smile, soft presence and the laughter she so freely shared. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Sally is survived by her sister, Gayle (Wally) Barlow; sister, Nancy McKinstry; brother, Michael McKinstry; sister-in-law, Kathryn McKinstry; sister-in-law, Karen (Rodger) Mead; sister-in-law, Nancy (Delbert) Snider; daughter Darcy Gyaltso; son Darren Hyde; stepdaughter Stacey (Mike) Harper; stepdaughter Kim (Jeff) Suntken; stepdaughter Cathy Hutchinson; son-in-law Lou King; and daughter-in-law Betsy Curtis.
She had the most wonderful grandchildren: Brittany, Cailey, Lou, Jimmy, Robin, Alex, Lauren, Alexandra, Carissa, Dylan, Devon, Vanessa and Cameron. She also had a few bonus grandchildren: Nick, Darrald, Joe, Jeffrey and Sierra. She had 25 great-grandchildren, with two more arriving this summer. Sally had a very special relationship with her son-in-law Lou King, who never left her side.
Sally was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Hutchinson; her daughter, Denise Welsh; her parents, Lloyd and Beverly McKinstry; and her brother, Scott McKinstry.
Sally has chosen to be cremated, and her remains will be laid to rest beside her husband Charles in Woodlawn Memorial Cemetery in Clio, Michigan.
