STEPHENS, Luther Otis Jr. – of Mt. Morris, Michigan, age 86, died on Monday, February 3, 2020 at Hospice House of Shiawassee County in Owosso. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 1:00 PM Friday, February 7, 2020 at North End Baptist Church, Mt. Morris. Pastor Ted Stephens Officiating. The Family will receive visitors on Friday from 11AM until the time of service at 1PM. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice House of Shiawassee County – Owosso.
Luther was born March 4, 1933 in Truman, Arkansas, to the late Luther and Maude (Gunter) Stephens Sr.. He grew up and attended school in Truman and later migrated to the Mt. Morris area. Luther served in the US Army during the latter part of the Korean War and was stationed in Germany. After returning from the service he married Nancy June Persails August 18, 1960 in Truman Arkansas. He began work with General Motors, retiring in November 1986 after 30 years of service. Luther attended and served in a bus ministry, as usher, and greeter at North End Baptist Church in Mt. Morris, Michigan where he and wife Nancy began attending in October 1962. Luther was a hard worker. He enjoyed camping and fishing and meticulously maintaining his vegetable garden. He had a great sense of humor and willing to help anyone.
Luther was an outstanding example of Christ, he loved his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife: Nancy; children: Robin (Robert) Miller of Sandusky, Mi., Dale (Susan) Stephens of Clio, Randy (Karin Muron) Stephens of Clio, Marilyn (Allen) Burton of Flint; 10 grandchildren: Rachel Trupe, Robert Miller, Ryan Miller, Randy Stephens, Rusty Stephens, Ashleigh Duby, Adam Stephens, T.J. Stephens, Emily Stephens, Danielle Burton; 8 great-grandchildren; Sister: Willis Clark. He was preceded in death by Sisters: Lessie Byard, Lela Thomas, Bessie Lindley, Nadine Clark, Geneva Foster, Maggie Kagen, Marie Jones, Delores Garner.
