Born: 12/2/1932
Died: 7/22/2025
Age: 92
Community: Flint, MI

Dolores Martha Black, age 92, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 22, 2025.

Dolores was born on December 2, 1932, in Toledo, Ohio, to Bernadette and Ignacio Palacios. In 1937, at the age of 5, she moved with her family to Flint, Michigan. She was the second oldest of 12 siblings.

On July 19, 1951, she married Earl Black at St. Michael’s Catholic Church. Together they built a loving family. She is survived by her children: Thomas and Jennifer Black of Grand Blanc; Roxanne and Rick Eberts of Cedarville; and Joanne (deceased) and John Gillett of Flushing.

Her beloved grandchildren are Andrew and Anna Black, Joseph and Anna Black, Richard Eberts III, Katie and Spencer Hoffmann, Paul and Jen Ihbe-Eberts, Sam and Brittany Eberts, Annie and Michael Haske, Jonathan Gillett, and Megan (Chris Land) Gillett. Dolores was also blessed with seven great-granddaughters: Elizabeth, Eloise, Elena, Eleanor, Felicity, Frances, and Juliette.

Dolores is survived by her siblings: Rita (Jake, Fred) Clapper, Nacho Palacios, William (Sandra) Palacios, John (Mary Ann) Palacios, Barbara Langdon, and Carol (Joseph) LaVictoire and many cherished nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

In high school, Dolores worked for her Uncle Gilbert in his tailor shop on weekends and after school. She later worked at A.C. Spark Plug in Flint for eight years, and then part-time for 12 years at the family business, Palacios Tailors.

She was a longtime member of Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Burton. A dedicated Girl Scout leader for many years, she taught the Marian Award to senior Girl Scouts across the county and was honored with the St. Anne Award for her contributions. Her Scouts affectionately called her “Bugs” because of her dislike for insects.

Dolores and Earl built a cherished family cabin on Rose Lake, a place filled with joyful memories, especially for her grandchildren and great-granddaughters. She always looked forward to her annual sisters’ weekend at the cabin. Family meant everything to her.

She also found joy in creating stone birdhouses with her daughter Joanne, and they attended many craft shows together to sell their handmade creations.

Dolores was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Earl Black; her parents Bernadette and Ignacio Palacios; her sisters Elizabeth Burgess, Bernadette Elizondo, Mary Helen Ranville, Theresa Valley, and Yolanda Palacios; and her daughter Joanne Gillett.

A visitation will be held on Monday, July 28, from 1:00 to 7:00 p.m., with a Rosary being prayed at 6:00 p.m., at Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 Hill Road in Grand Blanc.
