RUBEL, Keitha “Kay” Joyce (Stephens) – of Flint, MI, formerly of Davison, MI, age 94, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, January 12, 2018. A Funeral Service will be held 11 AM Wednesday, January 17, 2018 at Allen Funeral Home, 9136 Davison Road, Davison, MI 48423; Rev. Harold K. Polk, Jr. officiating. Interment immediately following the service in Flint Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive visitors 2-4 PM & 6-8 PM Tuesday, January 16, 2018 and 10-11 AM Wednesday, January 17, 2018 at Allen Funeral Home. A Memorial Service, under the auspices of Nourmahal Chapter #282 Order of the Eastern Stars, will be held 7 PM Tuesday, January 16, 2018 at Allen Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Shrine Hospital Patient Transportation Fund, in Kay’s memory.
Kay was born in Davison, MI on December 31, 1923, daughter of the late John and Blanche (Tower) Stephens, the second from the youngest of 15 children and last surviving. She was a graduate of Davison High School Class of 1942. Kay was crowned Miss Dr. Pepper in 1945. She was united in marriage to Donald K. Rubel on November 24, 1951 and he preceded her in death on July 19, 2002. Kay was a member of many Masonic organizations including Past Worthy Matron of Davison Chapter #299 O.E.S., EL Said Court #28 (L.O.S.N.A.), past president of EL Said Aires (L.O.S.N.A.) and Guardian of Job’s Daughters International Davison Bethol #20. She enjoyed many hobbies including gardening, ceramics, sewing and knitting. Most importantly, she enjoyed cooking for family events and spending time with her many grandchildren.
Kay is survived by 3 children, Greg Rubel of Flint, MI, Barbara Rusin-Rubel of Canada and James (Tammie) Rubel of Mount Morris, MI; 4 grandchildren, Andrea (Sheldon Chamberlain) Rusin, Jarrett Rusin, Logan Rubel and Noah Rubel; 3 great-grandchildren, Owen and Hayden Chamberlain and Gannon Rubel; special sister-in-law, Barb Stephens; sister-in-law, Carol (Rick) Stanley of Colorado; many other loving family members and friends. She was preceded in death by 8 brothers, Duane, Kenton, Harold, Robert, Donald, Richard, Russell and Ralph; 4 sisters, Dorothy, Helen, Gladys and Shirley; sister-in-law, Ruth (Donald) Link; parents-in-law, William and Marjorie Rubel.
The family would like to extend a very special thank you to Dr. S. Vemuri, Dr. K. Vemuri, Dr. Raj, McLaren Ortho Staff, McLaren Flint nursing staff in the ER, OR, 8th and 10th floors, McLaren Hospice staff, especially Michelle and Michelle Jackson of Family Services for their compassionate and professional care of Kay.
