Root, John Carl, of Flushing, age 71, died Monday, September 20, 2021, at the VA Ann Arbor Healthcare System. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday. September 30, 2021, at Rossell Funeral Home. Visitation will be 12 -8 p.m. Wednesday and 10 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home until the time of the service at 11 a.m. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the Genesee County Humane Society, the Disabled American Veterans Chapter 3 in Burton, or a charity of your choice.
John was born in Flint, Michigan on May 30, 1950, the son of Donovan and Donna Sue (Jones) Root. He married Mary Cronin in Flint, Michigan on March 31, 1988. John proudly served in the U.S. Navy at the end of the Vietnam Era. He grew up with a family tradition of General Motors workers and he worked as a Skilled Tradesman for over 30 years. He also was a gifted instructor of Robotics and Pneumatics at the Genesee Area Skill Center for 19 years who positively impacted the lives of many students. John was a car enthusiast and was active in the Michigan Cruisers Car Club as well as serving on the Back to the Bricks Committee for several years. He enjoyed photography and was an animal lover who loved his three Cocker Spaniels, Rex, Tripper, and Lamb Chop.
John is survived by his wife, Mary; children, David Root, Jason (Amanda Reed) Root; grandchildren, Kevin (Cindy) Root, Lilliana Reed, JayCarter Root; great-grandchildren, Kaitlin Root, Stella Root, Jack Franklin Root; siblings, Gary Root, Rick Root, Pam (Greg) Palinsky, Susan Root, Mark (Lisa) Stange; brothers-in-law, James (Norna) Cronin, John (Janet) Cronin; sister-in-law, Annette Stange; step-mother, Carol Root Stewart; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Donovan and Donna Sue Root, John C. And Beverly Stange; brother, Kevin Stange; sister-in-law, Marie Root; and brother-in-law, Dennis Cronin. |
