Obituary for Bertha Wrighting
Bertha Wrighting was a virtuous woman whose life reflected faith, service, and love. She walked with God, served others faithfully, and leaves a legacy that will continue to inspire generations.
Bertha Wrighting, age 101, peacefully passed away on December 10, 2025, in Arlington, Texas.
Bertha was born on June 12, 1924, in Benham, Kentucky, to Fred and Carrie Thomas. From an early age, she displayed a caring and nourishing spirit and a heart for service—qualities that would define her life’s journey.
Bertha attended Benham High School after graduating she attended cosmetology school where she met Percy Gant Jr., they later united as husband and wife. From that union five children were born, Percy III (Butch), Wilford (Billy), Frederick, Sandra, and Garry.
In 1951, she moved with her family to Flint, MI where she became a member of St. Paul Baptist Church and served as an usher. Many years later she joined Evergreen Missionary Baptist Church where she served as president of the nursing gill and women auxiliary.
Bertha dedicated her professional life to cosmetology and later nursing where she served at Hurley Hospital for over 30 years before retiring. She continued serving others with compassion, skill, and unwavering commitment as she served in her Saturday Evening Club, Hurley retirement club and Eastern Star. Her work was more than a career; it was a calling, and she touched countless lives through her gentle care and kindness.
Bertha later married Rev. Ambrose Wrighting, and from that union there were no births. After the passing of Rev, Wrighting Bertha relocated to Arlington, TX with her children, she joined The House of Refuge Ministry church, where she served as Mother of The Church until her health failed.
A woman of deep faith, Bertha loved the Lord and remained active in church throughout her life. Her faith anchored her, guided her decisions, and shaped her character. She lived out her faith daily, serving others with humility and grace.
She was preceded in death by her Parents Fred and Carrie Thomas, husbands, Percy Gant and Ambrose Wrighting, sons, Percy and Wilford Gant, siblings Willie Mae Coleman, Sarah Cranford and Fred Thomas, grandchildren Fred Releford, Monique Gant -Deloney, Perry Gardner II and great, great grandson Amir Duncan.

A Celebration of Life service honoring Bertha Wrighting will be held on December 27, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Mansfield Funeral Home, 1556 Heritage Parkway, Mansfield, Texas. |
