JOSEPH LOUIS “PAPA JOE” BOKOR
BARBEAU, formerly of FLINT
Joseph Louis “Papa Joe” Bokor of Barbeau, formerly of Flint, age 93, passed away peacefully on January 19, 2021. Joe was born September 27, 1927 in Flint, the son of the late John and Sofia (Kubik) Bokor. He was united in marriage to Enid and they had five children. Joe's love of family was very important to him as well as his Catholic faith. He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church of Barbeau for more than thirty years. Joe was an avid fisherman, hunter and outdoorsman. He also enjoyed playing euchre, cribbage and pinochle with his daughters, family and friends. Joe was a friend to all and left a lasting impression on almost everyone he met. He was generous to a fault and would lend a helping hand when he could. Joe proudly served his country as a Corpsman in the U.S. Navy during World War II and the Korean War. He applied his medical knowledge as an X-ray and medical technician at General Motors in Flint for over thirty years. Joe retired to the UP and has called Barbeau his home ever since. He spent his retirement years volunteering for the DNR and the Conservation Society. Joe also volunteered driving cancer patients to and from treatments and appointments, being a survivor himself.
Joe is survived by four daughters, Kathleen Beebe-Zittel of Grand Blanc, Susan Bokor-Boilore of Caseville, Emily Bokor of Grand Blanc, and Stacy Bokor of Grand Blanc; best friend, Enid "Noonie" and "adopted" son, Harpo; grandchildren, Brandon (Roxanne) Beebe, Berry (Shanna) Beebe and Brent Zittel, Dj and Sophia Boilore, Josh Leix, and Hannah Bokor; and two great-grandchildren, Harlan and Dylan Beebe. In addition to his parents, Joe was preceded in death by one son, Jo-Jo; two sisters, Sophia and Helen; three brothers, Frank, John and George; and his favorite Boilore son-in-law, Dan.
Joe’s family would like to extend a special thanks to the nurses and aides at McLaren Thumb Regional Hospital who cared for our Dad making him comfortable and feel cared for. And finally, a special heartfelt thank you to Fr Dominic from Holy Family Catholic Church in Barbeau for driving nine hours round trip from Barbeau to Bad Axe to give our Dad last rites.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 23, 2021 at Holy Family Catholic Church of Barbeau. Rosary will begin at 10:00 a.m. and the funeral mass will begin at 12:00 p.m. A Celebration of Life gathering will take place this summer. In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorial contributions to Holy Family Catholic Church of Barbeau, St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, or the donor’s favorite charity. The family was assisted with these arrangements by the Ransford Collon Funeral Home in Caro. Friends may share memories, thoughts and prayers online at www.RansfordCollon.com.
