Dee Dee was born in Flint, Michigan on May 12, 1953, a cherished daughter of Frank and Lee O’Dea. From a young age Dee Dee displayed a vibrant spirit. She was a cheerleader throughout high school at Holy Redeemer in Flint. Dee Dee went on to attend Northern Michigan University and later graduated from the University of Michigan-Flint with degrees in social work and teaching. Achievements she was very proud of. She moved to Arizona and lived in Black Canyon City where she taught at Canyon Elementary for over 25 years. Dee Dee was a respected, remarkable and beloved teacher who made a lasting impact on generations of students and her community. A passionate Michigan Football fan, NASCAR enthusiast and fly fisherwoman. She also loved hiking, traveling the wild west on the back of a Harley and exploring the world with an inquisitive mind. She loved sharing stories and adventures with her loved ones and students. Dee Dee adored country and folk music, often teaching her nieces and nephews and students her favorite songs. Songs that are still sung today always bringing a smile to our faces as we remember her.
Surviving are her loving family, siblings, Kitty Liell, Joe O’Dea, Dorothy Rybarczyk, Mike (Cindy)O’Dea, Peggy Stein, Noeleta (Jeff) Nyland, Mary (Jim) Naughton, Daniel (Nancy) O’Dea, Debbie (Armand) Ausiello and Kevin (Nikki) O’Dea; sister-in-law, Linda O’Dea; several beloved nieces and nephews whom she dearly loved.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Legona O’Dea, sister, Julie O’Dea, brothers, John and Gerald O’Dea.
It is with heartfelt gratitude that we would like to thank the nurses and staff at Henry Ford Ascension Genesys and Medilodge of Grand Blanc for all of their compassionate care.
