Hazel, Richard “Dick” – of Clio, age 79, died Thursday, January 26, 2023, at Ascension Genesys Hospital of Grand Blanc. Funeral services will be held at 1PM on Wednesday, February 1, 2023, at the O’Guinn Family Funeral Home in Clio. Father Roy Horning to officiate. Cremation will follow. The family will receive visitors on Tuesday from 1PM until 8PM and the funeral home and on Wednesday from 11AM until the time of service. Memorial contributions may be made to the Military Veteran Project.

Richard was born November 21, 1943, in Caro, Michigan, to the late Russell and Helen (Jeckel) Hazel. He attended Harbor Beach Highschool, graduating with the class of 1962. Richard married the love of his life and best friend, Judy Goniwicha on June 19, 1965.  Richard was a United States Army Veteran who served his country overseas. He was a man of faith and was a member of Holy Redeemer Church. He worked for Buick for 37 years, retiring in 1996. Richard was a proud member of Buick Local 599, he was on many committees including the Education committee, and served as a Committeeman. He was a very strong union man, he received the Walter P. Reuther Distinguished Service Award, bestowed on union members who have served in the union for 20 consecutive years. He worked at Buick City up until the doors closed. Richard was a board member for Security Credit Union for many years volunteering on the board from 1994-2023 as a committee member, he was a Board Secretary from 2021-2023, and served as a Chairman of the Supervisor Committee from 1985-1994. Richard enjoyed golfing, especially Vienna Greens and Kearsley Lake. He enjoyed softball, and woodworking. Richard was a leader who many looked up to for guidance and strength. Most of all he was a huge family man. His family was his world, from vacations every year to sporting events he was always there. Richard was an amazing husband, dad, and grandpa who will be dearly missed.


Surviving are: Wife of 57 years, Judy Hazel; Children: Cheryl (Greg) Moore, Matthew (Shantel Ward) Hazel; Grandchildren: Justine (Jeremy) Johns, Tyler Moore, Matison Hazel, and Jordan Moore; Great grandchildren: Jaelynn and Jackson: Brother, Donald (Cathy) Hazel; his beloved grand dog, Bella. He is preceded in death by his in laws, Leo and Peggy Goniwicha; sister in law, Shelly Goniwicha, and nephew, Brent Goniwicha.
