MATHENIA, Alvin “Al” – of Burton, age 81, passed away Wednesday, January 22, 2025. Cremation has taken place. A Memorial Service will be held 2 PM Wednesday, January 29, 2025 at Allen Funeral Home, 9136 Davison Road, Davison, MI 48423; Rev. Raleigh Adams, Jr. officiating. Inurnment, with Military Honors, will be 12:30 PM Thursday, January 30, 2025 in Great Lakes National Cemetery, 4200 Belford Road, Holly, MI 48442. The family will welcome visitors from 12 PM until the time of the service on Wednesday.
Al was born in Cooter, MO on December 3, 1943, son of the late James and Melvina (Wright) Mathenia. Al proudly served in the U.S. Air Force from 1961-1963. He married Nancy Charles on April 11, 1981. Al retired from GM Metal Fabrication after many years of service. Al was always known to lend a helping hand, share stories and play practical jokes on the ones he loved. He enjoyed playing softball, golf, playing guitar and singing. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family and friends. He will be missed by everyone.
Al is survived by his loving wife, Nancy; children, Erik (Amy) Mathenia and Niki (Ray) Pyrc; grandchildren, Joshua, Chantelle, and Gabrielle Pyrc, Madeline, Jens and Danica Mathenia; siblings, Harold Mathenia and Mary Hockaday; dear life-long friend, Gene Wylie; and many other loving family members and friends. He was preceded in death by three sisters and four brothers.
The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Gentiva Hospice for all of their compassionate care for Al.
