Burial in Great Lakes National Cemetery
Amos was born August 29th, 1942, in Little Rock Arkansas. He was the son of Amos, and Mary Rinks.
Amos grew up in Flint MI, where he attended Flint Central High School. He later enlisted in the Army and became a parachuter in the 82nd Airborne. He served part of his time in Korea. After his time in the armed service, he married the love of his life, Janice Nations, on November 17th, 1962, and they were married for almost 63 years before Janice passed away 6 months prior to him.
Amos was well known for his tradesmanship. He was a heavy equipment welder for C.J. Rogers Construction for approximately 10 yrs. before being employed with General Motors until he retired many years later. He served GM as a maintenance welder and later as a millwright by title.
Amos was very talented, known most notably for making quality furniture and hunting knives. He always built very impressive pieces of furniture made to last the test of time. Many of his friends still have a knife made by his hands. They too were heavy duty and made to last.
Amos was a sports fan. He loved the Detroit Tigers and Lions. He loved going to his children and grandchildren’s games.
Amos was a devoted member of the Mt. Morris Church of Christ, where he worshiped with most of his family by his side.
He is survived by his 5 children: Amos (Mary Ellen) Rinks, Dana (Brian) Goode, Mike (Kim) Rinks, Mary (Nick) Kurish, and Seth (Heather) Rinks. He is also survived by 23 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren. Amos is also survived by his sisters Mary MacLeish and Natalie (Shirley) Lucero.
He was preceded in death by his sister Virginia Trimble. Also preceding him was his newborn child named Faith Hope Rinks and grandchild Garrett Freeman.
The Rinks family would like to thank Absolute Hospice and caregiver Leah Hill for their compassion, and, end of life care for our father.
