ABBEY, Bernita S. (Holmes) - Of Flint Township, age 80, died Wednesday, March 13, 2024 at her residence.
Funeral service will be held 1pm Saturday, March 16, 2024 at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Flint,
Jared McLeod officiating.
Burial in Crestwood Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be directed to Cystic Fibrosis Foundation in memory of her granddaughter, Trisha Cory.
Visitation 10am Saturday until the time of the service at the funeral home.
Bernita was born in Hornersville, Missouri on March 29, 1943, the daughter of the late Ray and Effie Holmes. Bernita graduated from Arbyrd High School, Class of 1961. She married Louis Abbey on June 12, 1965 in Flint, Michigan. Bernita was a long time member of Swartz Creek Church of Christ and was a member of Bristol Road Church of Christ previously. She enjoyed shopping, scrapbooking, fashion and spending time with her family. Bernita’s wit, sense of humor and positive outlook in any situation was an inspiration to everyone that knew and loved her.
Surviving are husband, Louis;
Daughters, Karen (Chris) Blackmore of Flushing, Sharon (David) Cory of Flint Township and Pamela (Antonio) Silva of Flint Township;
Grandchildren Ricky (Karisa) Cory, Trisha Cory, Timothy (Nadine) Franks, Chelsea (Joe) Stroup, Brooke Blackmore, Cameron Blackmore, Kristen (Jason) Leet, Brooke (David) Combs, Anthony Silva and Amanda Graham, Stephanie Silva, Thomas Silva, David Silva, Heaven Silva and Drake Silva;
20 great-grandchildren;
Sister, Alice Sides;
Best friends, Judy (John) Pidgeon, Madge (Don) Bost and Pat (Bill) Barry;
And several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Trisha Cory, brothers, Jim Holmes, Pete Holmes, Lowell Holmes and Glen Holmes and sister, Ina-Sue Lands.
