AMAYA, Elioba “Winnie” (Alvarado) – of Flint, MI, age 91, passed away Monday, January 6, 2020 in Bradenton, FL. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 AM Tuesday, January 14, 2020 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 5199 Richfield Road, Flint, MI 48506; Rev. Fr. Roy Horning celebrant. Interment immediately following the Mass in Flint Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive visitors 4-8 PM Monday, January 13, 2020 at Allen Funeral Home, 9136 Davison Road, Davison, MI 48423 and 10-11 AM Tuesday, January 14, 2020 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Teresa of Kolkata, P.O. Box 1076, Maynardville, TN 37807, in Winnie’s memory.
Winnie was born in Edna, Texas on September 28, 1928, daughter of the late Pedro and Pilar (Velasques) Alvarado. She married Fernando Amaya on October 12, 1942 and he preceded her in death on April 29, 2007. Winnie was a member of the UAW Local #598 where her tamales were world famous. She was an avid gardener, loved to crochet and sew, fish, hunt, cooking and canning. She was also a member of the Ladies Auxiliary at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, a member of St. Teresa of Kolkata in Maynardville, TN and Holy Cross Catholic Church in Palmetto, FL.
Winnie is survived by 4 children, Julie (Jay) Leniz, Josie (Bernie) Mayville, Fernando (Darlene) Amaya, Jr. and Daniel (Sue) Amaya; 4 grandchildren, Angelina (Brad Winslow) Amaya, Rebecca (Brian) Webster, Paige (Jordan) Hastings and Gabriel Amaya; 3 great-grandchildren, Terrance Burns, Amaya Burns and Maverick Winslow; brother, Senon “Bo” Alvarado; 2 sisters, Mickie Clouse and Christine Servantes; numerous nieces, nephews, other loving family members and many beloved friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Pedro and Pilar Alvarado; her husband, Fernando “Fred” Amaya and 5 siblings.
Winnie was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, friend and caregiver to everyone.
