Kathy, affectionately known by her family as “Kato,” was born in Flint, Michigan on October 12, 1940, the daughter of Floyd and Theresa Elk. Over the years, she worked a variety of jobs, most notably at Mead Containers, NuVison, and the American Red Cross, where she was known for her strong work ethic. She had a love for reading and was very knowledgeable and taught us many things. Kato was more than an aunt, she became a mother to the Jozsa children, who she raised and loved as her own. Kathy enjoyed making her delicious pancakes for us. Her independence and determination were matched only by her generosity. She was the kind of person who would drop everything to help someone, but never once asked for help in return, even when she needed it. Kathy had a special bond with animals, especially cats. She opened her heart and home to countless strays throughout her life, each one becoming part of her family. Kato was a patient, warm-hearted woman. She often put others before herself and always would seek to be right with the Lord. Her heart truly was one of grace. She endured many life’s challenges time and again throughout her life and the Lord blessed her with several miracles. She faithfully attended Trinity Assembly of God, JOY and Life Group. No matter what she was going through, when asked how she was doing, her joyful response was always, “I’m blessed, the Lord’s been good to me” Our hearts are broken, and we will dearly miss her.

Kathy is survived by her nieces; Karen Jozsa, Sharon (Johnny) Papcun, Michelle Jozsa and Jane Jozsa; nephews, Nacho Ramirez and David (Cookie) Ramirez; nephew-in-law, Bob LaBerge; great-niece, Heather LaBerge; great-nephew, Noel (Kim) LaBerge; great-great-niece and nephews, Cylus, Arah and Ezren; many other loving extended family members; pet yorkie “her boy”, Joey; and beloved cats, “the outsiders”.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Floyd and Theresa Elk; sisters, Mary, Theresa, Barbara and Rosie; nephews, Baby Frankie and Gregory; niece, Chris; dear special friend, Mary and several fur-babies.

Donations in Kathy’s memory are suggested to an animal rescue charity of one’s choice.
