Reinbold, Gerald “Jerry” of Flushing, age 95, passed away peacefully Saturday, March 4, 2023, at McLaren-Flint. Per Jerry’s wishes, there will be no funeral services. A celebration of his life will take place Sunday, March 26, 2023, at Zehnder’s of Frankenmuth from 1-3 p.m.
Jerry was born on December 30, 1927, the youngest and last surviving of five children born to Fredrick and Marie (O’Callaghan) Reinbold. He spent his youth in Bay City.
Jerry dropped out of school, forged a new birthdate and joined the U.S. Navy due to World War II. He served on the USS Swanson in the Pacific and was lovingly referred to as “Gunner”. Jerry married Margie Perkins in Bay City, Michigan on June 15, 1946. Marge and Jerry moved to the Flint-Flushing area in the 1960’s. Jerry had started his career of a Flooring Installer at an early age and continued this vocation until his death. He was often referred to as the oldest floor installer in Genesee County and perhaps the state of Michigan.
In 1936, Jerry’s parents and siblings built a one room cabin at Hubbard Lake, Michigan, which became the family’s second home. Every day at the lake was spent sailing, fishing, and water skiing. Winter months found Jerry and his brothers downhill skiing on Mt. Maria.
Jerry is survived by his daughters and their spouses, Ruth Jessie and husband Jimmy King of Columbiaville, Marie and husband Jim Morrow of Ohio, Deb and husband Richard Reid of Flushing; eight grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Margie and son, Gerald “Jerry”.
A special thank you to the staff of CCU and the 11th floor staff at McLaren Hospital for the outstanding care provided to our father and to Calvin and Janet for all of the homemade meals provided for the past several years.
