ADAMS, John William – of Davison, MI, age 79, died peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on Friday, August 4, 2023. John was born in Flint, MI on October 16, 1943, son of the late Donald and Florence (Reed) Adams. He was a graduate of Mount Morris High School Class of 1962. John married Gailene Zapata on June 27, 1964, and they shared 59 wonderful years together, always affectionately referring to her as “My Bride”. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during Vietnam from 1966-1968. John retired from General Motors-Milford Proving Grounds in 2006 after 42 years of service working as an experimental engineer on development vehicles. He was a faithful servant, a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church for over 55 years, always giving of his time and skills. John was the happiest when spending time with his family. The best husband, father, Napa and Papa, always putting everyone before himself, and he felt he never met a stranger.
John is survived by his loving wife, Gailene Adams; 4 wonderful children, Angela Adams Roller (Wade), Danielle Adams, Dawn Smith and John C. Adams (Margaret); grandchildren, Kalsie Mathews and Jackson Smith; great-grandsons, Elijah Mathews and Ezra Mathews; mother-in-law, Sadie Zapata; many cherished relatives and friends.
Although John will be greatly missed by those of us privileged to know him, his memory will continue to make this world a brighter and more beautiful place.
A Funeral Service, with Military Honors, will be held 3 PM Wednesday, August 9, 2023 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 5496 Lippincott Boulevard, Burton, MI 48519; Pastor John Meyer officiating. Cremation will take place following the service. The family will receive visitors 4-7 PM Monday, August 7, 2023 and 12-7 PM Tuesday, August 8, 2023 at Allen Funeral Home, 9136 Davison Road, Davison, MI 48423 and 2-3 PM Wednesday, August 9, 2023 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. A Time of Remembrance and Prayer will be held at 6 PM Tuesday, August 8, 2023 at Allen Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, in John’s memory.
