GRIFFEL, Rhina H. - Age 89, of Flint. passed away October 24, 2022 - Tishrei 29, 5783. Funeral services will be held 12:30 PM Thursday, October 27, 2022 at Temple Beth El, 5150 Calkins Rd., Flint. Private interment will follow at Great Lakes National Cemetery. Shiva will be held 4-7 PM Thursday at Temple Beth El, 2-4 PM Friday and 7-9 PM Saturday at American House in Grand Blanc. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to Temple Beth El or the charity of one's choice. Rhina was born July 26, 1933 in Cleveland, OH, the daughter of Samuel and Jeanne (Greenstein) Holtz. Rhina was very active in the League of Women Voters for over 50 years. She was a pillar and longtime member of Temple Beth El, serving as Hebrew school teacher and a ritual committee leader for several decades. She was a member of the Blue Ribbon Committee on Governance for the City of Flint. Rhina was extremely active in her community, including volunteering her time at Applewood and St. Cecelia Society. She was the 2019 recipient of the Donald Riegle Community Service Award from the Flint Jewish Federation. She is survived by her husband, Eugene; children, Suzanne (Saul Weiner) Griffel, Michael (Lesley) Griffel, David (Michelle) Griffel and James (Sandy) Griffel; grandchildren, Karen, Zev, Louis, Meira, Joshua, Alexander and Phillip.
