Born: 6/8/1918
Died: 6/18/2023
Age: 105
Community: Flint, MI

VANLEUVEN VanLeuven, (Jedynak) Hobson, Annie – Of Flint, age 105, died Sunday, June 18, 2023 at her residence. Annie was born in Trotter, Pennsylvania to Andrew Jedynak, who worked in a coal mine and Anna (Wnetrzak) Jedynak who struggled daily to care for Annie and her 7 siblings. Her family moved to Flint, Michigan when she was a youngster and at the age of 15, Annie met and later married James Hobson on March 26, 1934. They bought a house for $800.00 and raised their four children in the Flint area.

James was a Mason (Lodge No. 23 F & A.M.) and he and Annie enjoyed traveling with the Mason and Shriner groups. They also participated in square-dancing, bowling, and golfing together. After celebrating 62 years of marriage, James died in 1997. In the Spring of 2002, when Annie was 84 years old, her youngest sister, Amelia, served as a match-maker and Annie married William VanLeuven of Fenton. They had a wonderful life together traveling, golfing, going to casinos, playing cards and enjoying life until he died in 2016.

Annie continued to stay active well into her 100’s. She lived in her own home and drove her car every Thursday to play golf at the Fenton Farms Ladies Day League where she had golfed since 1969. Another one of her greatest joys was scheduling time with friends and family members to travel to casinos. She also hosted a weekly Friday-night card game where her competitive nature really showed!

At age 104, she moved into the Woodhaven Senior Community and enjoyed all the wonderful residents and care-takers that she met there. She was well-loved and she made many great friends. The family wishes to thank the Woodhaven/Homestead family for the loving care that they extended to Annie for the months she lived there.

Surviving are her children: daughter Mona (Joe) Kosa of Flint, and sons James (Sharon “Jamie”) Hobson of Perry, Gurdon (Cheryl) Hobson of Davison, and Jerry Hobson of Cape Coral, FL. She has 19 Grandchldren, 32 Great-Grandchildren, and 21 Great-Great-Grandchildren and many loving nieces and nephews. Annie’s surviving stepchildren include: Karen (Joe) DeMars, Bradley (Jackie) VanLeuven, and Krystn Tatus. Her 98-year old sister, Amelia Ferkany, lives in Clinton, TN.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her son-in-law, Donald Oskey; her daughter-in-law, Judy (Blevins) Hobson; and her grandson, Dandy Oskey; as well as her siblings and their spouses: Irene (Roy) Van Arsdale, Andrew (Elizabeth) Jedynak, Herman (Anne) Jedynak, John (Helen) Jedynak, Leo (Mary) Jedynak, and brother-in-law Albert Ferkany.
