Passed away peacefully Monday, March 14, 2022, at her home in Arizona; age 83 years. Leila Thompson was born on July 14, 1938 in Tuscola, MI to the late Hugh and Rose Thompson. She was married to Robert “Bob” Johnston on August 14, 1975; he survives her.
Leila was an active member of St. Lorenz Lutheran Church in Frankenmuth, and an associate member of Risen Savior Lutheran Church in Arizona. She was an avid quilter, enjoyed traveling, knitting, and reading, but she especially loved spending time with her family.
Surviving besides her husband Bob are: daughters Karen Palomares and Kathy (Kevin) Szuch; step-daughter Anne (Allen) McDaniel; grandchildren Julie, Joe, Jenni, Melissa, DJ, Haley, Trevor, Rebecca, Ashlee, Elizabeth, Christian, and Seth; many great grandchildren; sister Ethel Emery; brother Gene Thompson; and many nieces and nephews.
Leila was preceded in death by her daughter Kelly Talarico; step-son Scott Johnston; and siblings Janet Fisher, Roland “Bum” Baxter, Rex Baxter, and Shirley DePottey.
A memorial service for Leila will take place at a later date, which is to be announced. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to St. Lorenz Lutheran Church or to a charity of donor’s choice.
