BLOM, D. Neil - Of Grand Blanc, age 90, died Wednesday, March 20, 2024.
Funeral service will be held 11am Monday, March 25, 2024 at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Flint.
Visitation 4-7pm Sunday at the funeral home.
Burial in Evergreen Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Habitat for Humanity, Eastside Mission or Carriage Town Ministries.
Neil was born in Flint, Michigan on April 28, 1933, the son of the late Oscar F. Blom Sr. and Lydia Emily Johnson Blom, the last of 10 children. On January 16, 1953, he married Joanne Flemming in Grand Blanc, Michigan. Neil worked in his youth as an assistant golf pro at Warwick Hills Grand Blanc. He was the Financial Development Director for the local American Lung Association. He also worked for General Motors for 15 years and then entered the sales field, retiring on disability in 1990. He was a 36-year survivor of heart bypass surgery. Neil was an Army Veteran of the Korean Conflict and an active member of many civic and Christian organizations, among them, The Grand Blanc JayCees, Boy Scout Troup #368, Cub Scout Troup #175, Grand Blanc Business Association, Burton Business and Industry Association. He was The Blom Family researcher. After his retirement, he was a “host” reading mentor, a Master Gardener. He enjoyed golf, cooking and was an active member of Central Church singing in the choir and teaching. He was a member of the First Congregational Church of Grand Blanc, Living Word Church in New Port Richey, Florida and the Central Church of the Nazarene. He loved the Lord and the fruit of the spirits sent him on Mission Trips to Chile and Honduras. He loved to learn about God through many formal classes and home study. Mark 12:29-30 was his way of living “Love thy neighbor as you love thyself.” He was preceded in death by his high school sweetheart and wife, Charlotte (Joanne) Blom of 64 years.
Surviving are children, Deborah (Mike) Heine of Portland, OR,
Neil (Felicia) of Lansing, Michael (Debby) of Grand Blanc and Patrick (Rosemary) of Broken Arrow, OK;
10 grandchildren, Jody (Jackie) Blom, Joshua (Kristen) Blom, Aaron (Ally) Heine, Jeremy (Amanda) Blom, Shelley Heine, Christine Blom, Andrew Blom, Matthew (Shannon) Blom, Austin Blom, Christina and Darryl;
10 great-grandchildren;
many nieces, nephews, neighbors and friends from Schram Street and Stone Hollow Subdivision.
