Dan was born on August 11, 1954 in Flint, MI to Wayne and Eleanor Jackson. He had a love of learning and academia. So much so, that at the young age of five, he mastered the difficult card game of Pinochle. He was a graduate of Grand Blanc High School in 1973 and went on to the University of Michigan, where he received a bachelor’s degree in organic chemistry.
His life was filled with passions that included gardening, world travel, and volunteering at his church. It was his love of bowling that lead him to find his wife, Janet, of the last 21 years.
However, his greatest passion was his love for his Savior, Jesus Christ, and for people. In 1978, he gave his life to Christ and was forever changed. As the bible says, “The joy of the Lord was his strength” and “Surely goodness and mercy followed him all the days of his life.”
At the start of his walk of faith, he attended House of Prayer Church, where he raised his three daughters to love Jesus with all their heart. He faithfully served there as a deacon and a member of the worship and food pantry teams. In 1998, he began to attend Central Church of the Nazarene, where he continued to serve in ministries that included: choir, angel tree, hospital visitations and food distribution. No matter life’s seasons or circumstance, he lived his life to glorify God. Like David, he had the heart of a worshipper. Through word or deed, he desired for all to encounter his Jesus. His God did not fail him, he has been healed and awaits us in Heaven.
He is survived by his loving wife, Janet;
his devoted daughters, Jacie Hogan, Jene’ (Bill) Hunt, and Janna (Ryan) Jones;
step-children, Scott (Dana) Turnbow, Matt (Roxanne) Turnbow, and Allison (John) Roland;
16 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren;
sister, Deborah Menosky;
in-laws, Phil (Gail) Skinner, Jim (Sue) Skinner and Sharon Stegall; a vast extended family that includes many nieces, nephews, and ‘The Friends’ that became chosen family. A special mention to his friend and choir buddy, Jim Fouts.
He was truly loved and adored by all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Wayne and Eleanor Jackson; mother and father-in-law, Eleanor and Jim Skinner; brothers-in-law, Sandy Menosky and Randy Stegall.
