PETRIE, SHIRLEY ANN –
Of Flushing, Michigan died peacefully at the age of 95 on Sunday, October 24, 2021, in her home at Woodhaven Retirement Community. She was a loving wife, mother, sister, aunt and friend. Shirley was born in Mildred, Kansas on October 17, 1926, and graduated from Flint Northern High School in 1944. She had a diverse working life: as an employee for the Durant Hotel in Flint in the Banquet Department; for Northwest Airlines in Chicago, Illinois; in various positions for General Motors in the Flint area; and for Marshall Fields / Hudson’s / Macy’s Department Store in Flint. Shirley attended First Presbyterian Church of Flint. She was an award-winning bowling champion including bowling a 700 series and successfully competed in national tournaments for over 45 years. Shirley was inducted into the Greater Flint Bowling Hall of Fame in 2005. She also distinguished herself as a golfer, reaching the elusive milestone of scoring a hole-in-one. Shirley was an avid Detroit Tigers fan and enjoyed attending and watching golf tournaments. She is survived by her son Thomas Dean Ricketts, sister Frances Mackey and numerous nieces, nephews, and grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents William and Alice White, her husband Ernest Petrie, her brother Billy Lee White, brother-in-law Stanley Mackey, sister-in-law Florence White and stepson David Scott Petrie. Special thanks to the staff and professionals at Woodhaven Community and Maple Woods Manor who lovingly cared for Shirley in her last year. Shirley will be missed by all who knew and loved her. A memorial service will be held at First Presbyterian Church, 746 South Saginaw Street, Flint, on Saturday, November 20, 2021, at 11:00am.
