Bland, Gordon of Flushing, age 91, died Sunday, December 22, 2024, at Vista Springs Trillium Village Estate in Clarkston surrounded by family. Funeral Mass will be 11 a.m. Monday, December 30, 2024, at St. Robert Catholic Church. Fr. Brian Lenz will officiate. Entombment will follow at New Calvary Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be 3-7 p.m. Sunday at Rossell Funeral Home and 10 a.m. until the time of the Mass Monday at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the University of Michigan Rogel Cancer Center or Folds of Honor.
Gordon was born in Flint, Michigan on January 14, 1933, the son of Gilbert and Hannah (Amos) Bland. He graduated in 1963, from University of Michigan and remained an avid U of M fan all his life. Gordon proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He married Janet Lower on June 27, 1959, at St. John Vianney Catholic Church in Flint. She preceded him in death on November 28, 2016. He worked at General Motors, retiring after over 41 years, with much of his time at the Buick Engine Plant. Gordon and Janet loved traveling and spending time attending all of their children and grandchildren’s academic and sporting events. He also enjoyed golfing, woodworking, running and photography. When his children were young, Gordon was a Cub Scout Master at St. Agnes Catholic Church, where he was also very active in the Athletic Boosters. He was a member of St. Robert Catholic Church.
Gordon is survived by his three children, David and wife Julie Bland, Michael and wife Barbara Bland, Karen and husband Ed Blair; eight grandchildren, Michael, Amy (Nick) Lorenz, Kevin, Katherine, Megan (Franco) Fabiilli, Kristen, Dan (Aubreigh), Alex (Maddie); and great-grandchildren, Cecilia, Zachary, Lucas, Michael, Viviana and Brian.
