EDIE, Paul – of Clio, formerly of Whittemore, Michigan, age 84, died peacefully in his sleep on Wednesday, December 18, 2024, at his residence. Honoring his wishes, cremation will take place and there will be a Mass of Resurrection held at 11AM on Thursday, January 2, 2025, at SS Charles and Helena Catholic Church – 230 E. Vienna St., in Clio. Rev. Fr. Ken Coughlin celebrant. The family will receive visitors at the church from 10AM until the time of Mass. In lieu of flowers, those desiring may make memorial contributions to the Clio Fire Authority.

Paul was born February 8, 1940, in Detroit, Michigan. He graduated from Whittemore High School with the class of 1958 and received his associate degree in fire science from Mott Community College. Paul honorably served in the United States Army. On June 22, 1968, Paul married the love of his life, Gloria Chipps, and together they shared 56 years of marriage. Prior to his retirement, Paul worked at Buick for nearly 40 years and was one of the original twelve firefighters to work for the Clio Fire Department 2 – he was dedicated to his career in firefighting and was the state instructor teaching firefighters 1 and 2 safety for many years. He retired as Battalion Chief of the Clio Fire Department 2 after over 20 years of service. Paul enjoyed being outdoors hunting and camping and keeping up with NASCAR and the Detroit Red Wings. He liked to read, Clive Cussler being his favorite author, and he absolutely loved visiting the Fire Hall – even after his retirement. Paul was an incredible man who will be greatly missed by those who knew him.

Paul is forever remembered by: Wife, Gloria Edie; Children: Jill Ashmore and Matthew Edie; Grandchildren: Kristal (Quinn) Shooltz, Brendan (Christine) Edie, Jessica Ashmore, and Nicholas Ashmore; Great-Grandchildren: Addy Shooltz, Trevor Edie, and Scarlet Shooltz; Siblings: Marilyn Stoutenburg, Bud (Gayle) Chipps, and Penny (Ernie) Spencer; Beloved dog, Patches. Paul was preceded in death by: Son, Michael Edie; Parents, Reuben and Anna; Son-in-law, Brian Ashmore; Mother and Father-in-law, Dornis and Leona Chipps; Brother-in-law, William “Bill” Stoutenburg.
