Marion Louise Maloney

Marion Louise (Darling) Maloney currently of Durand passed away on May 30, 2022 at the age of 80. She was born July 2, 1941, in Flint, Michigan, the oldest child and only daughter of George and Leda (Nemecek) Darling. She grew up on the family farm in Flushing Township and was active in the New Lothrop Bethel of Job’s Daughters as a teen, eventually being elected as Honored Queen. She graduated from Flushing High School in 1959. Marion married shortly after high school and had her three children by the time she was 23. She worked for General Motors at the V8 engine plant in Flint for 25 years, retiring in 1995.

Marion was an independent woman who lived life on her own terms. She enjoyed traveling around the country to visit her kids when they were scattered in different directions while serving in the military. She married Robert Michael Maloney on July 2, 1994. She and Mike enjoyed their early retirement years together by taking several motorcycle trips to different parts of the country before he preceded her in death in 2007. Marion always had an active social life, and enjoyed spending time with friends and family, attending church at the New Lothrop Church of the Nazarene, and attending her lunch meetings with her friends in the Red Hat Society during her later retirement years.

She is survived by children James (Kellie) Fink, Sherri Fink-Stokes, and Michael (Cathy) Fink, grandchildren Kristi Taphouse, Holly Bajko, Nicole Timbs, Jeffery Stokes, Michael Stokes, Kellie (Nathan) Kett, and Michaelanne Fink, seven great-grandchildren, brothers Fred (April) Darling and Robert Darling, several nieces and nephews, and last but not least, her two “kittens” Sarah and Iris.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Mike Maloney, and grandson in-law Brian Taphouse in 2020. The family would like to thank the staff and care friends at the Lodges of Durand and the staff of Amara Hospice Care.

Cremation has taken place per Marion’s wishes, and her ashes will be interred at the Great Lakes National Cemetery with her husband Mike’s.

A Memorial service will be held at 12 noon on Friday, June 3, 2022 at McGeehan Funeral Homes – New Lothrop Chapel. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 10:00 am until the time of service.

Memorial Contributions are suggested to the New Lothrop Nazerene Church.
