Marie Elaine Burl
Age 76 of Chesaning, formerly of Owosso, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 21, 2025.
A time of visiting will be held on Saturday, July 26, 2025 from 12pm to 3pm at Nelson-House Funeral Home.
Marie was born on August 15, 1948, in Saginaw, Michigan, to George and Marcella (Leis) Hemgesberg. A proud graduate of Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Chesaning, Class of 1966, she carried the values instilled in her throughout her life.
Marie’s greatest joy came from her role as a mother and grandmother. She cherished each moment spent with her family, creating a tapestry of love and laughter that will forever resonate in their hearts. Known for her independence, she often found joy in the simple tasks of life, like mowing her lawn, showcasing her spirited nature. Her quick wit and contagious smile were treasures that brightened the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing her.
On March 17, 1973, Marie married her best friend, Phillip Eugene Burl, in Owosso. Their bond endured for over 46 loving years until his passing in 2019.
Marie is survived by her children, Jennifer Smith and Michael (Heidi) Burl; her beloved grandchildren, Samantha, Briana, Elodie, and Calvin; her brothers, Dennis (Paulette) Hemgesberg and Peter Hemgesberg; her sisters-in-law, Bonnie, Laure, Deb Hemgesberg and Margaret Burl and brothers in law Dave and Evelyn Burl and Kent and Bonnie Burl; along with many loving family members and friends who will forever cherish her memory.
She was predeceased by her husband, Phillip; her parents; her brothers, John, Richard, Greg, and Eugene Hemgesberg; and her sister-in-law, Gertrude Hemgesberg, brothers-in-law Gary and Susan Burl and Ronald Burl.
In honor of Marie's incredible spirit and loving nature, memorial contributions may be made to Union Court Assisted Living in Chesaning, an organization that provided her with caring support.
