Leo W Ruddy
Age 84 of Chesaning passed away on Friday, December 18, 2020 at Ascension St. Mary’s Hospital.
Leo was born on November 12, 1936 to Francis and Julia (Rousseau) Ruddy in Mt. Morris. He graduated from St. Mary's High School in 1955. Leo served his country in the United States National Guard in 1959 for 6 years. He married the love of his life Margaret Wendling on May 7, 1960 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church. They celebrated 60 years of marriage this year.
Leo retired from General Motors' AC Spark Plug Plant in 1993 after 38 years. He made many friends throughout the years there. He spent the next 27 years doing what he loved: Leo worked as a carpenter, who with precise attention to detail and unwavering patience, could build absolutely anything. He spent many happy hours in his workshop working on projects for people. Leo was also an avid gardener with a special passion for raspberries. Leo loved to share the fruits of his labor with anyone who stopped by - no one was ever allowed to leave without a bag of goodies. Leo loved to give to those he loved.
Leo enjoyed telling stories, scratching lottery tickets, playing euchre and other card games, watching pretty much any sport that was on TV, and most importantly, supporting his grandchildren, who lovingly called him Poppy. Leo was a member of the Knights of Columbus since 1963.
Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife Margaret; six children, Dave Ruddy, Karen (Luie) Krupp, Larry (Peggy) Ruddy, Ron (Trish) Ruddy, Randy Ruddy, and Dennis (Stacey) Ruddy; Twenty one grandchildren, Jeremy (Samantha) Krupp, Alissa (Evan) Beach, Hilary (Trevor) Kline, Jason and Brent (Sydney) Ruddy, Justin, Ambria and Krysta Ruddy, Dakota, Paxton and Alexis Ruddy, Mackenzie, Kayleigh and Abbey Bitterman, and Alec, Garett and Marissa Mangino; six great grandchildren, Nolan and Marlee Krupp, Kinsley and Brinley Beach, and Hadley and Holden Ruddy; siblings, Faith (Dave) Abbott, Mary Ellen Santocke, Sister Rena Ruddy O.P., Francis (Loraine) Ruddy, Michael Ruddy, and sister-in-law Sue Ann Ruddy; and many loving nieces, nephews and friends.
Leo was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters Ruth (Joe) Schroeder, Lois (Barry) Burke, Dorothy (Fred) Schwarty, Jean (Leonard) Hemgesberg; brother Bernie Ruddy; brothers-in-law Tom Santocke and Lavern Wendling; sisters-in-law Millie (Ed) Hebeler and Ruth Ann Ruddy.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00am on Monday, December 21, 2020 at St. Michael Catholic Church of Maple Grove. Burial will follow at St. Michael's Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church that morning from 9:00am until the service.
