Mark Richard Johnson of Swartz Creek, Michigan passed away on Tuesday, October 8, 2024 at the age of 69. Mark was born in Flint, Michigan on November 2, 1954, the son of Garrison and Esther Johnson. Mark’s final wish was to be able to Give the Gift of Life. Mark surprised his family with this final wish - he was successful (he made his siblings very proud of this selfless gift).
Growing up in Beecher, he attended Flint Christian school through grade 9. Transferring to Beecher high school where he was a member of the National
Debate Team and choir. After graduation in 1972, he attended Moody Bible Institute in Chicago earning a degree in music. He then obtained an accounting degree from U of M Flint while working for GM.
Mark started his GM career at the Coldwater Rd. plant in the accounting department. He was transferred to Troy and ended his career retiring from Inteva Products (still doing GM work).
As an active member of the Metro-West Al-anon Club, he enjoyed playing cards and the fellowship with his friends at the Al-anon Club.
Mark loved time spent with his family sharing a great meal, playing table games and watching sports, which included the Tigers, Lions and Michigan.
Mark was preceded in death by his parents, Esther Marie Collins (1990) and Garrison Waldo Johnson (2020).
Mark is survived by his siblings, Stephen & Matthew Johnson of Flint, Linda (Bradley) Lokken of Flushing. Nephews Brandon (Kelsey) Lokken of Elk Rapids and Connor Johnson of Hartland, Michigan. Great niece & nephew, Nora & Henry Lokken (Elk Rapids). Cousins, Sally (David) Strand of Clio, Janet Lindsay of Tempe, AZ, Andrew (Laura) Johnson of Escondido, CA, Patty (Chuck)
Stonehouse of Chicago, IL and Joseph (Diane) Collins of Lake Zurich, IL. Aunt Beverly Johnson of Flint, Michigan. Many second and third cousins.
One memory that the family holds dear is when the Tigers were playing in the Worlds Series in 1968 and all Mark wanted to do was watch the game. But
instead he was at AC Spark Plug on a tour with grandma Collins, mom, dad and his siblings.
The family would like to thank the doctors and staff of Beaumont Hospital for their years of care and compassion. The family would also like to thank the doctors and staff of McLaren Hospital and Select Specialty Hospital for the care
and compassion they showed Mark in his final days.
Family and friends are invited to attend a celebration of life at Ruggero’s Restaurant on Saturday, November 23, 2024 @ 4:00 pm. Mark loved the family dinners so he has requested one more dinner to remember him. Please contact
Steve, Matt or Linda if you are planning to attend.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Mark’s honor to the Metro-West Alano Club, located at 27225 Grand River Ave, Redford Charter Twp, Michigan 48240. |
