JONES, Cleta Virginia (Smith) – of Davison, age 89, passed away Sunday, March 3, 2024 at Regency at Grand Blanc. Cremation has taken place. A Memorial Service will be held 11 AM Saturday, June 22, 2024 at Allen Funeral Home, 9136 Davison Road, Davison, MI 48423; Caleb Jones officiating. Inurnment will be in Evergreen Cemetery. There will be one hour of visitation prior to the service on Saturday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Food Bank of Eastern Michigan, in Cleta’s memory.
Cleta was born in Paragould, AR on July 1, 1934, daughter of the late James and Ethel (Wyles) Smith. Cleta moved to Flint in 1951 and graduated from Flint Northern High School in 1952. She married Russell Jones on May 23, 1953 and they enjoyed 50 years of marriage. He preceded her in death on June 3, 2003. Cleta enjoyed sewing, quilting, reading and anything historical. She made many quilts and gave them away.
Cleta is survived by her loving children, Teresa Hoffman and Greg Jones; daughter-in-law, Laura Jones; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Francis Smith; and many other loving family members and friends. Mark Jones, her son, passed away on May 11, 2024 and she was preceded in death by daughter, Susan Northrup; brother, Bob Smith; and sisters, Jaunice CoBurn and Nelda Simpkins; and sister-in-law, Lillian Putman.
