POWELL, Gene B. – of Montrose, age 93, died peacefully on Wednesday, May 24, 2023, at Hampton Manor in Montrose. Funeral services will be held 1PM Tuesday, May 30, 2023, at the O’Guinn Family Funeral Home in Montrose. Ray Foust officiating. Burial to follow in Montrose Township Cemetery. The family will receive visitors at the funeral home on Tuesday from 11AM until the time of service at 1PM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you send your thoughts, prayers, and celebrate the wonderful life Gene lived.
Gene was born April 30, 1930, in Montrose, Michigan, to the late Lavern and Muriel (Cooper) Powell. On June 14, 1952, Gene married the love of his life, Arlene Kreger. Together they celebrated 69 years of marriage before Arlene preceded him in death on April 6, 2022. Gene was a hard worker all his life. He owned and operated G and A Transportation and Skyline Charters & Tours in Montrose for many years. Gene was a member of Montrose Wesleyan Church and enjoyed attending the Montrose Blueberry Festival every year where he and Arlene were once honored as Grand Marshals. In his free time, he enjoyed bowling and competed in several tournaments. Gene was a great husband, father, and grandfather. He was loved by many and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Surviving are: Sons: Dean (Maria) Powell, Doug (Rita) Powell, Drew Powell, and Darryl (Lana) Powell; 13 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren, with another great grandson due in October; Many other loving family members and dear friends. Gene was preceded in death by: Grandson, Duane Powell; Great grandson, Kaiden Atwell-Powell; Brothers: Jack Powell, and Robert Powell; Sisters: Odessa Cutler, Inez VanTol, and Neomi Basner.
