Ralph (Obie) Oberholtzer passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by family on May 9, 2022, at the age of 91. He was born on October 19, 1930 in Flint, Michigan to I. A. and Mynette Oberholtzer. He married Shirley Gossel in 1955 in Flint where they continued to live until 1965 before moving to Frankenmuth. Shirley pre-deceased him in 2014.
Obie worked many different jobs until he started working at “The Buick” in 1953 in Department 33.71 Plant Security. After retiring from the Buick, he worked part-time for Mike Young Buick-GMC in the transportation division for almost 25 years. He enjoyed serving in the Frankenmuth Optimist Club and Higgins Lake Hillcrest Lake Shores Board of Directors. He made many friends throughout his life and was often described by others as “such a nice man.”
Obie enjoyed his family and his cottage at Higgins Lake where in his younger years he loved to water ski and ride his motorcycles. He passed his love of anything with a motor, especially boats, cars, motorcycles and snowmobiles, onto many of his children/grandchildren. He enjoyed working with wood and anyone would tell you if he constructed it, you could count on it being extremely heavy and lasting for years!
Obie is survived by daughters Lynn (Steve) Kidd and Lori (Dennis) Cramer, all of Frankenmuth. His five grandchildren include Tricia (Jason) Davis, Todd (Courtney) Cramer, Brett (Emily) Kidd, Mark (Jamie) Kidd and Matthew Kidd. Great- grandchildren include Hannah and Jack Davis, Kara and Oliver Cramer, Grayson, Charlotte, Emma, and Saylor Kidd, and Connor and Cameron Kidd. Also surviving him is Ruth Abraham Baker, loving best friend since 2015.
In addition to his wife, he was pre-deceased in death by his parents, sister Laurie and brother, Ward.
The family wishes to acknowledge Covenant VNA Home Health Care, Tammy Tucker, Aubrey Sutherland, Sara Keller, and Yvonne Baker for their extraordinary love and care for Ralph in assisting the family with his well-being over the past year. He would often say “he doesn’t really need them but did like having them.”
