Gloria Joan Isaac of Burton, age 87, died Saturday May 20, 2023, at her residence. Honoring her wishes, cremation has taken place and a private burial at Flint Memorial Park will be held at a later date. Gloria was born in Elba, Michigan on June 20, 1935, to Arthur L. and Eila (Courts) Castle. She resided in the Davison and Burton area for all of her life. She was joined in marriage to Paul J. Isaac on February 18, 1967 until he preceded her in death on August 31, 2018. Gloria was a nurse by nature and in practice at Hurley Medical Center where she provided patient care for over 28 years before retiring in 1988.
Gloria was an avid bowler and she enjoyed knitting and crocheting. She was also a seasoned gardener who cultivated a backyard oasis and grew beautiful peonies. Most of all she enjoyed spending time with, and cooking for, her family. She hosted many pool parties and monthly get-togethers throughout the years. Her friends and family are blessed with many fond memories of her wonderful food, our lively kitchen table conversations, and summers by the pool where she taught several generations of children how to swim & dive.
She is survived by her children: Deborah Surles; Linda and her husband Jack Watson; Mark and his wife Cindy Surles; Stephanie and her husband Ed Lafuente. She also leaves behind friends and extended family including many “grands & greats”: grandchildren Tricia Watson; Amy (Rob) Surles-Rosario, Andrea (Jeremy) Sears; Erin (Jacob) Desgrange; Natalia (Adam) Tessler; Bob Baxter. Great grandchildren; Michael Parker; Olivia Desgrange; Anna (Landan) Rosario-Chomic; Mikiela (Jim) Grady; Sophie (Zachery) Rosario-Simpson; Makenzie Irvine; Morgan Sears; Mason Sears; Taylor Baxter; Kyarra Allen; Rowan Tessler. Great great grandchild: Emilia Simpson.
She was preceded in death by her first husband Tom Surles and the late Paul Isaac, her daughter Karen Surles, her granddaughters Carey Baxter and Monika LaFuente, her brother Arthur Castle and her sisters Avis Utley, Eva Joyce Betts, Rhea Doggendorf, and Gladys Williams.
