MCARTHUR (BEHIL), ROSE HELEN – Of Grand Blanc, age 93, died Thursday, November 2, 2023 at Tanglewood Assisted Living.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday, November 7, 2023
Holy Family Catholic Church, 11824 South Saginaw Street, Grand Blanc, Father Steve Anderson officiating.
Burial in New Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to North End Soup Kitchen or Food Bank of Eastern Michigan.
Visitation 3 p.m. – 8 p.m. Monday, November 6, 2023 at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Flint. A Rosary will be prayed at 6 p.m. Monday evening at the funeral home.
Mrs. McArthur will be at church from 9 a.m. Tuesday until the time of the Mass
Rose was born in Flint, Michigan on June 17, 1930, the daughter of the late Stephen and Mary Behil.
Rose attended Flint Northern High School. As a young woman, she loved to go polka dancing with her sisters and friends.
Rose enjoyed being a mom, sister, aunt and grandma. She loved to bake and cook meals for the family. Her roast beef dinners and M &M and Ginger Snap cookies were legendary.
Rose was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church and active in the 55 and Over Club for many years.
Rose gave back to the community for years by volunteering with the Red Cross delivering mail to patients at St. Joseph Hospital in Flint and Genesys Hospital in Grand Blanc.
More than anything, Rose enjoyed getting together with her extended family and cherished those memories, especially the ones that involved dancing the polka during family picnics in the backyard.
Rose loved her family.
She leaves behind, daughters, Roseanne (Jesse) Jones, Teresa (Doug) Hansen and Nancy (Mike) Smorch;
son, Jeff (Janet) McArthur;
grandchildren, Brian (Alicia) Crowley, Cassandra (Alex) Patsy, Jenna Hansen, Valarie Bryant, Michael McArthur, Lindsey Smorch and Francesca Smorch;
great-grandchildren, Nash and Blake Crowley;
sisters, Mary Behil and Ann Chema;
numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Steve and Mary Behil; sisters, Helen Nester and Matilda Orlicek; husband of 37 years, Gerald McArthur and granddaughter, Christine Hansen.
