CULP, John R. – of Clio, age 86, died peacefully at home on Wednesday, January 17, 2024, with family by his side. Funeral Mass will be held 11AM Tuesday, January 23, 2024, at SS. Charles and Helena Catholic Church in Clio with full military honors. Rev. Fr. Kenneth Coughlin officiating. Cremation will follow with inurnment in Flint Memorial Park at a later date. The family will receive visitors at the funeral home on Monday from 11AM until 8PM, and at the church on Tuesday from 10AM until the time of Mass at 11AM. A Rosary will be prayed at 7PM Monday evening at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to SS. Charles and Helena Catholic Church.

John was born on April 4, 1937, in Flint, Michigan, to the late Aubrey and Lillian (Banks) Culp. He graduated from Mt. Morris High School with the class of 1955. While in high school, John played football and was part of the undefeated 1954 football team and was inducted into the Mt. Morris Athletic Hall of Fame. Upon graduation, he proudly served his country with honor, dedicating twelve years of his life to the Michigan Army National Guard from 1955 until 1967, where he was deployed to the Detroit Riots. On September 6, 1958, John married the love of his life, Darleen Pannett, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Mt. Morris. Together, they built a beautiful life filled with love, laughter, and countless cherished memories. John worked as an electrician for General Motors for 42 years before retiring in 1997. He was a faithful member of SS. Charles and Helena Catholic Church and a proud lifetime member of the NRA. John enjoyed life’s simple pleasures, spending time in the great outdoors hunting, and his annual fishing trips to Canada, which he joyfully embarked upon for over three decades. His love for the outdoors extended to his own backyard, where he kept a pristine lawn, taking immense pride in its meticulous upkeep.

Surviving are: Loving wife of 65 years, Darleen Culp; Children: John (Kim) Culp, Stephen (Lisa) Culp, Kathyrn (Mike) Culp-Torok, and Patty (Ken) Culp-Smith; Guardianship of granddaughter, Kerrene Culp-Davidson; multiple grandchildren and great grandchildren; Sister, Ethel (Matthew) Wilbur; Lifelong best friend and fishing buddy, David Baxter; many other loving family members and dear friends. John was also preceded in death by: Daughters: Susan Dye, Debra Huntley, and Laurie Culp; Sister, Dianna Banks.
