SMITH, Karen Earley - Of Flint, MI, age 60, passed away Friday January 8, 2021 at her home surrounded by family.

A Memorial Mass will be held 10am Saturday, September 18, 2021 at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, 1227 East Bristol Road, Burton. Father Thomas Firestone and Deacon Jim Corder officiating.

Memorial visitation will be held 4-8pm Friday, September 17, 2021 at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Flint. Visitation 9:30am Saturday at church until the time of the Mass.

Karen was born in Indianapolis, IN on May 11th, 1960 the daughter of the late Arnold and Phyllis (Sergent) Earley. She married Daniel Smith on October 20th, 1984 and together they raised four wonderful children. Karen was a loving mother and proud Grammie. Her career started as a co-op student at Genesee Memorial Hospital, in admitting and then eventually as Surgery Boarding Clerk when it closed. She went on to become a Surgery Counselor and Tech at Complete Eye Care. She then went on to own and operate Advent Religious Goods; with her husband Dan, for 10 years. Karen went to work for Hurley Medical Center as a Surgery Boarding Clerk, transferring to Accounts Receivable and eventually retiring in 2019 from the Accounts Payable dept. She was an avid goalie Mom for Hayden. Other great joys in her life included working with the Youth Group at Holy Redeemer in Burton. Training and running the Crim 10 Mile each year, and Sunday morning “date runs” with the Squeeze.

Surviving are her husband, Daniel Smith, and children Madison Lent of Grand Blanc, MI, Daniel (Victoria) Smith of Niles, IL., Hayden (Vanessa) Smith of Providence, RI., and Michael (Brianna) of Brookfield, MA.

Grandchildren Eloise, Amelia, Theo, Kaydence, Liam. Brothers Greg (Kathy), Donald and sister Susan Kay. Special cousin Allison Sergent and best friends Sue DeVernay and Faye White.

Prayer- " I expect to pass through the world but once. Any good therefore that I can do or any kindness that I can show to any fellow creature, let me do it now… For I shall not pass this way again."
