SLINGLEND, Sandra Mae (Strayer) – of Flint, MI age 85, passed away Friday, September 15, 2023. A Funeral Service will be held 12 PM Thursday, September 21, 2023 Allen Funeral Home, 9136 Davison Road, Davison, MI 48423; Rev. Shelly Ann Long officiating. Interment immediately following the service in Richfield Union Cemetery. The family will receive visitors 4-7 PM Wednesday, September 20, 2023 and 11 AM-12 PM Thursday, September 21, 2023 at Allen Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Richfield United Methodist Church or the Alzheimer’s Association, in Sandra’s memory.

Sandra was born in Brethren, MI on August 11, 1938, daughter of William and Gertrude (Swihart) Strayer. On November 14, 1959, Sandra married the love of her life, Dale Slinglend. Their union was a source of joy and companionship until Dale's passing on August 17, 2020. Sandra was a graduate of Kearsley High School, Class of 1957, where she laid the foundation for her future endeavors. She was a dedicated learner and continued her education, ultimately earning a bachelor's degree in paralegal studies from Mott Community College. Her commitment to knowledge was a testament to her tenacity and thirst for personal growth. Sandra was a woman of many talents and interests. She was an avid golfer, skilled bowler, and a passionate line dancer. Her participation in the Flushing Roadrunner Square Dancing Club brought her immense joy and a sense of community. Sandra also had a creative side, as she enjoyed crocheting and baking, sharing her homemade treats with loved ones. One of her favorite pastimes was shopping, and she relished lunch dates with her granddaughters, creating cherished memories together. Sandra was a devoted member of Richfield United Methodist Church, where she found spiritual nourishment and camaraderie among fellow congregants. For 25 years, Sandra dedicated her professional life to Weight Watchers, where she served as a lecturer and receptionist. Her work helped countless individuals on their journey to healthier lives, and she retired from this role in 2010, leaving a lasting impact on the organization and its members. Sandra's adventurous spirit led her to explore the United States and Canada as a member of the Good Sam's Club RV group. These travels enriched her life with unforgettable experiences and new friendships. Sandra Slinglend will be remembered for her unwavering commitment to her family, her community, and her passions. Her legacy lives on through the cherished memories she leaves behind.

Sandra is survived by her daughter, Susan (Roger) Bloomfield; 2 granddaughters, Alicia (Adam) Florizone and Jenny (Brandin) Lake; sister-in-law, Ann Slinglend; 2 brothers-in-law, Gary (Pam) Slinglend and Lloyd (Sharon) Slinglend; many other loving family members and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Gertrude Strayer; her husband, Dale Slinglend; son, Jeffery Slinglend; 4 sisters, Lena Lou (Dale) Reisch, Ella (Max) Selleck, Carol (Elwood) Pennell and Juanita Boyer; brother-in-law, Norman Slinglend; sister-in-law, Pat (Leon) Thrush.
