Francis Lavern Sloan, of Chesaning,
died peacefully, surrounded by his family on February 29. 2024, at the age of 87.
Francis was born on November 23, 1937, the son of Francis and Marjorie (Jones) Sloan, in Ottumwa, Iowa. Early on in his life, he worked alongside his father at their septic services that were founded the year he was born, until taking it over later in the future, he was only 14 when he bought his first truck. On July 17, 1965, he married his wife, Sandra Everett. Together, they had 5 children.
Francis was very active in the Chesaning community; volunteering at Showboat, a member of the Knights of Columbus, he was the president of of the Saginaw County Fair for 5 years, a member of the septic association board, he helped start 'Santa's Village' in Chesaning, and participated in the habitats for humanity. When he wasn't volunteering in his community, you could oftentimes find him always making a friend, and spending time on his golf cart in Florida.
Francis is survived by his wife, Sandy Sloan; children, Mickie (Bruce) Ellison, Dean (Darlene) Sloan, Kathleen Kane, Patti Civille, Chris (Shawn) Sloan; 9 grandchildren, Justin, Jason, Alyssa, Jennah, Michael, Matthew, Tamisha, and Chad; 13 great-grandchildren; siblings, Marty (Robin) Sloan, Alice (Joe) Wilcoxson, and Fred Sloan. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Ronnie and Charles, and close nephew whom he helped raise, Danny Sloan.
A visitation will be held on Sunday, March 3, 2024, from 2:00PM till 6:00PM at McGeehan Funeral Home - Martin Chapel. A funeral service will take place on Monday, March 4, 2024 at 10:30AM at McGeehan Funeral Home - Martin Chapel.
Memorial donations can be made to the Saginaw County Fair, in honor of Francis.
