JIMMIE L. LEWIS
TO EVERYTHING THERE IS A SEASON, AND A TIME TO
EVERY PURPOSE UNDER THE HEAVEN.
Today we gather to celebrate the new life of Jimmie Lewis who has transitioned to eternal life. He now resides in the presence of God, our Lord, our Creator and our Savior Jesus Christ.
A Time to Be Born
Jimmie was born March 7, 1951 in Detroit, Michigan. He was the first born of three children born to the union of the late Harvey and Bernice Lewis.
A Time for Spirituality
Jimmie received his spiritual growth by attending Star Church. When the church closed, he attended Second Chance Church.
A Time to Work
Jimmie was employed at General Motors Corporation (GM). He provided over forty years of service to GM. He would often mention retirement, but he would say he enjoyed the job and his co-workers.
A Time to Teach
Jimmie volunteered at a Transition Home and mentored at risk males and recently released incarcerated men. He conducted meetings with them and provided the necessary tools to ensure they were successful in achieving a meaningful and worthy lives as they begin their journey as liberated men. He instilled in them the importance to keep on a positive and straight path.
When Jimmie was no longer volunteering at the Transition Home, he would often visit and drop off food for the residents. Every year for the Super Bowl when he was an active volunteer, he would fund and host a big Super Bowl dinner for the residents. He continued this tradition beyond his time of volunteering. As the residents transitioned through the home, the newer residents didn’t know Jimmie, but after his visit they never forgot him.
Jimmie volunteered with the Salvation Army and was responsible for ensuring the residents of the facility were compliant with the house rules. When he conducted meetings with the residents, he would also integrate Bible Study into the session.
Jimmie seemed to never meet a stranger and seem to know everyone that he came in contact. He was just an all-around good guy. The neighbors, people at the bank and probably most of the stores in the surrounding area that he lived knew who Jimmie was. He was well respected by all. Jimmie will be missed!
A Time for Enjoyment
Jimmie especially enjoyed all sports. His favorite was baseball. Whenever, Jimmie travelled out-of-town it was a MUST that his first stop before checking into the hotel was to the baseball / football stadium and the basketball arena. He also enjoyed talking sports with his son Terrance, other family members and friends which sometimes became a debate or a marathon discussion. Attending the pro football, baseball and basketball games were a favorite pastime along with going to musical concerts and the casino. He enjoyed playing the lottery as he was often one of the lucky ones. Some referred to him as 159.
A Time to Mourn
Preceding Jimmie in death was his father, Harvey; his mother, Bernice and sibling, Harvey Lamar, his daughter, Veronica Lewis and stepson Phillip Layton.
A Precious Special Thank You
Jimmie’s part in the creation of Veronica and Terrance led to Xavier, Jayden and Jordan. Each one so beautiful and special in mind, body and spirit.
Thank you, Jimmie. Your family will remember you and love you forever and ever.
