Her first language was Czechoslovakian, as both parents immigrated from there. She learned English at 5 years old. Her father was a blacksmith and a farmer in the town of Inwood, Ontario.

She graduated from high school in 1958 from Watford High School located in Watford, Ontario. According to Lydia she played on the Basketball team, even though she was only 5 foot tall.

In 1992 Bob and Lydia purchased a cabin on Big Island Lake in National City. They spent their retirement between their cabin, their home in Flint and the winter months in the sunny shores of Gulf Shores, Alabama. They continued until the decline of Bob Van Every, also due to dementia.

Lydia loved crafts, and hanging out with her friends.
Her favorite thing was spending time with her grandson, Josh; especially at their cottage, where he could swim and fish.
She was a mom, housewife, fulltime, until she graduated at the top of her class from Mott Community College in 1976, with a degree in Nursing (as a Registered Nurse). Lydia was an RN for her career.
In 1998 their only grandchild, Joshua Meade was born. He was the star in their eyes.
