ROBERT JOSEPH OGINSKY
DECEMBER 13, 1949 - NOVEMBER 6, 2020
OUR HUSBAND, FATHER, BROTHER, AND FRIEND.
Robert (“Bob”) Oginsky was a powerhouse of a man who lived a full life, loved deeply, laughed joyously, handled tough times, and built amazing things. His life demonstrates his values of loving family first, working hard, feeling music in your soul, having good humor, always trying to get better, and being there for and helping others. He was a proud son of Joseph and Mary Oginsky (he loved being “JOE’S BOY”) and a proud member of the large and lively Oginsky clan from Flint, Michigan and its surrounding areas. He shared a strong love and partnership with Roseanne, his wife of 30 years, and “lovingly encouraged” his three sons to TCB (take care of business) and “make it happen.” He also will be missed by his beloved dog Ziggy.
Robert was a master mechanic who started slinging wrenches as a young kid. He was part of Carman High School’s first graduating class in 1968. Initially he worked at car dealerships in the Flint area and later worked for General Motors as a mechanical technician (including several enjoyable years working on test vehicles at the Milford Proving Grounds). Robert also ran his own auto repair shop for a large population of impressed and grateful customers and friends.
A five-star general of “car guys,” Robert was known as the one who could fix anything. He also built many classic cars, often with his kids and family, including his 1963 Impala, 1955 Bel Air, 1969 Chevelle, and pink 1956 Cadillac. He loved music, especially polkas and oldies. He played the accordion, the guitar, and loved to sing (and sing well he did). He also loved food, sometimes with heavy amounts of pepper, especially ethnic dishes prepared by his family like pierogies, halupki (stuffed cabbage), and kapusta. Robert’s lasting message to his kids was to “stand tall” and to his family he said, “I love you guys.”
HIS FAMILY.
Robert is survived by his wife Roseanne; children Robert (Melissa), Daniel (Anna), and Max (Dana), and his grandchildren who he loved dearly, Garrett, James, Morgan, Alexander, Sophia, and Amelia; sister Joanne and brothers Frank (Sharon), James (Terri), Joseph (Susan), and Nicholas (Diana); many loved cousins, nephews, and nieces; and his dog Ziggy. He was preceded in death by his parents Mary and Joseph and siblings Paul, Helen, Fred, Douglas, Norma, and Peter.
