THON, REVEREND DOROTHY JEAN – Of Davison, age 69, died Wednesday, January 1, 2025 at her residence.
Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, January 7, 2025 at West Court Street Church of God, 2920 West Court Street, Flint, Michigan, Reverend David Mulherin officiating. Burial in Great Lakes National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Whaley Children’s Home, Flint, Michigan.
Visitation 4 p.m. – 8 p.m. Monday at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road and at the church Tuesday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.
Dorothy was born in Flint, Michigan on March 29, 1955, the daughter of the late Johnnie and Mary Mulherin.On September 23, 1993 she married Reverend Duane Thon and he preceded her in death on September 30, 2023. She managed Osterman Jewelers in Flint and was a member of the Kiwanis Club.
Dorothy had a Master’s in Divinity and pastored at United Methodist Churches in Pinconning, Mayville and Akron. She was a very good seamstress; loved to garden, painting and traveling and chasing water falls. In 2017 she accomplished her bucket list of visiting every state in the USA.
Surviving are daughter, Christy (Russell) Sommers; 6 brothers and 2 sisters and their spouses; and many nieces and nephews.
