Marlene Joyce (nee Klingbeil) Heddy of New Lothrop, formally of Flint, passed away on November 26, 2020 at the age of 87.
A private memorial service will take place at a later date.
Those desiring may make a memorial donation in her name to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
Marlene was born on May 19, 1933 to her parents Amelia Cartier-Klingbeil and William Klingbeil. She married William Froats in 1951 and they were together until his passing in 1963. Marlene married Paul Heddy in 1964, together they enjoyed being Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus each year and entertaining children as Opey and Dopey the clowns. They were together until his passing in 2002.
Survived by children Dan (Moira) Heddy, Doug (Nina) Heddy, Diana (William) Jensen, Michael (Donna Cisco) Froats, Pamela (Brantley) Wilkie, Walt (Shirley) Heddy. Grandchildren Elizabeth (Brian) Lemerond, Crystal and Jacob Heddy, Eric (Jessica) and Ryan Froats, and many others. She is survived by many great-grandchildren. Also, by her life-long friend Carolyn Lovejoy and her friends at Millpond Manor Apartments.
She is preceded in death by her husbands William and Paul, her son Paul H. Heddy Jr., and her siblings Martha Paavola, William Klingbeil Jr. and Robert Klingbeil.
She worked for GM for a time before moving on to work at AC Spark Plug. She also had a job at Citizens Bank as a bank teller. She was a devout woman and was part of St. Michael’s, St. Mary’s, and Court Street Methodist Church.
Marlene loved to cook large meals for her family and see everyone gathered around the table. She was creative and was skilled in drawing, painting, and sewing. Marlene enjoyed volunteering. She was proud of teaching crafts to special needs students in Flint Schools. She gave greatly and asked for little. She was a strong, caring woman who was always there to listen if you needed to talk. Marlene always reminded her family, “Smile, God Loves You!”
