Jon Vernon Greenway
Age 68 of Owosso passed away Thursday, January 16, 2014 at
Memorial Healthcare Center.
Per Jon's request, cremation has taken place and there will be
a celebration of Jon's life on March 8, 2014 at The Comstock Inn, Owosso.
Jon was born April 7, 1945 in Flint, the son of Russell
and Thelma (Davis) Greenway.
He graduated from Flint Northern High School, class of
1965 and attended GM Institute for skilled trades.
Jon was a current City Council Board Member and an
Ambassador for the Chamber of Commerce.
Jon married Elaine M. (Nunnemaker) Harrison in Flint on November 20,
1982.
He has been an AFLAC agent for the past 16 years alongside
his wife Elaine. Jon retired from General Motors after 35
years of service where he had been employed as an
electrician.
Jon was never afraid to express his opinion. He was very involved
in the Owosso community and worked hard to make a difference.
Jon was well liked by everyone who knew him and his humor kept
everyone entertained always.
While on Owosso City Council, newly elected as of November 2013, Jon
had several goals. One was to "level out" water and sewage rates. He also
wanted to clean up the brush along the river and use the natural asset
to the city's advantage. He was adamant as well that the dams not be removed.
Jon's passions included helping those in need, those who were an underdog or
those who had fallen on hard times and just needed a little help. Throughout
Jon's life, he was involved in helping many people, organizations and his biggest
passion of revitalization to the City of Owosso. Jon also was involved inevery
organization and project right along with Elaine and they had a lot of fun
working together.
Jon loved traveling and one of his favorite spots was Key West.
He is survived by his wife Elaine; sons John (Theresa) Greenway and Craig (Andrea) Greenway; step-children Keith
(Leigh) Harrison, Karen Mills and Kim Grant; 16
grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren; sisters Janet
Frost, Sally Baily, Meredith Sadowski and Myrna Kelly.
Jon was predeceased by his parents, brother Russell
Greenway and step son-in-law Bill Grant.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the Safe House of
Owosso, located at 1300 N. Hickory St or The Healing Nest,
located at 100 S. Norton St., Corunna.
