KINTZ, Rita Joan - Of East Lansing formerly of Flint, age 91, died Friday, January 31, 2014 at her residence surrounded by her family.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10am Saturday, February 8, 2014 at St. John Vianney Catholic Church, 2415 Bagley Street, Flint.

Entombment at New Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be directed to St. John Vianney School.
Visitation 4-8pm Friday, February 7, 2014, at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Flint, MI. A Rosary will be prayed at 7pm Friday evening at the funeral home. Mrs. Kintz will be at the church 9am Saturday until the time of the Mass.
Rita was born in Columbus, Ohio on November 20, 1922, the daughter of the late Martin and Mary (McDonald) Costello. Rita married James A. Kintz on January 3, 1948 in Columbus, Ohio and he preceded her in death on July 2, 2005. Rita graduated from Rosary High School, Class of 1940 and attended Ohio State University. Most of her life was spent devoted to the church and school of St. John Vianney. She was a Eucharistic Minister, Lector, and Greeter at Mass. She was a member of the Altar Society and active on many other committees. Rita was also a member of the St. Joseph Hospital Womens’ Auxiliary. She was a Brownie and Girl Scout leader. Rita was an avid bridge player, loved to read, sew and spend time with her family. Rita was employed by MESC for 15 years in Flint. Rita and Jim were fortunate enough to travel and vacation together in their later years.
Surviving are children, Kathleen and husband Dr. Jim Mitchiner of Ann Arbor and their children, Julie, Sarah and Bryan Mitchiner;
Mary and husband Bill Housefield of Haslett, and their children, Erin Housefield (Russ) Wicksall, Melissa (Gary) Walker;
Mark Kintz of Green Bay, Wisconsin and his sons, James, Jonathan and Stephen Kintz;
Therese Edwards of East Lansing and her son, Brian Edwards;
Bruce and wife Lori Kintz of Ann Arbor and their children Marcus and Natalie Kintz;
Julia and husband Joe Haynes of Woodstock, Vermont and their children, Morgan and Emily Haynes;
daughter-in-law, Rosita Kintz of Lansing and her son, Alan (Lori) Franklin;
4 great-grandchildren, Addison Wicksall, Emma Walker, Sophia and Nicholas Franklin;
sisters-in-law, Georgianna Costello and Christianne Costello;
many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim, son, Stephen, grandchildren, Stephenie Kintz and Marcus J. Kintz, 2 sisters and 4 brothers.
A special thank you to the parish members of St. John Vianney for all their friendship, love and support for more than 50 years. Rita’s family wishes to thank the staff at Timber Ridge Senior Assisted Living of East Lansing for the loving care given to their mother. Thank you to the Eucharistic Ministers at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church for their weekly devotion.
