Homer William Read, Jr. of Flushing, age 93, died Tuesday, March 23, 2021, at McLaren-Flint. Cremation has taken place. A visitation will take place from 2-8 p.m. Wednesday, March 31 at Rossell Funeral Home. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association or the Salvation Army.
Homer was born in Rockford, Illinois on January 21, 1928, the son of Homer William Sr. and Zola Iona (Calkins) Read. He proudly served in the U.S. Army. Homer graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Personnel Administration from Michigan State University. He spent his career in various levels of Hospital Administration in the Genesee County Health Systems. During his career, he served on many boards and was very active in the community. Homer also enjoyed golf and was an avid MSU sports fan.
He is survived by his three sons, Robert and wife Teresa (Brown) , Bruce and wife Susan Read, William and wife Jackie Read; three stepchildren Brian Erickson, Liz and husband Mike Torowski and Bradley Erickson; five grandchildren, Nicholas Read, Tyler Read, Katy and husband Dan Carter, Rachael Read, Brooke Read; and two great-grandchildren, Hudson and Bennett Read. Homer was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, Don and Jack Read. |
