McKECHNIE, Margaret “Joni” Joanne (Stokes) – of Davison, MI, age 78, passed away Saturday, August 13, 2022. Cremation has taken place. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated 12 PM Wednesday, August 24, 2022 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 404 North Dayton Street, Davison, MI 48423; Rev. Fr. Andrew A. Czajkowski celebrant. Private inurnment in St. John Catholic Cemetery. The family will receive visitors 11 AM-12 PM Wednesday, August 24, 2022 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church or the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, in Joni’s memory.
Joni was born in Detroit, MI on September 22, 1943, daughter of the late Wayne and Margaret (Spindelman) Stokes. She retired from the University of Michigan-Flint after more than 25 years of service. Joni was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, the Celebration Choir at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church and the Daughters of Isabella Regina Coeli Circle Davison #1095. She enjoyed baking, gardening, singing in the choir, crafting, card making, knitting and crocheting.
Joni is survived by 2 children, Rae (David) Lustig and Gordon (Tina) McKechnie; 5 grandchildren, Holly (Mitch), Erika, Megan, Stephanie and Samantha; 3 great-grandchildren, Rhythm, DJ and Luna; brother, Al (Pat) Stokes; many other loving family members and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Wayne and Margaret Stokes.
The family would like to extend a very sincere thank you to the nurses and staff of the NICU at Ascension St. Mary’s Hospital in Saginaw for their compassionate and professional care of Joni.
